NINTENDO'S PRESENCE AT GDC
6:13am ET, monday march 13th

The Games Developer Conference has come and gone, with X-Box making a big splash, leaving Dolphin -- and Nintendo as a whole for that matter -- to feature a dismal presence. The Dolphin announcement that some expected was non-existant, although one source tells TNP that the system was present "in some way, shape, or form."

Gamespot Japan has posted a couple of images from Nintendo's "low-key" booth:

And apart from the kiosks running Ridge Racer 64, Excitebike 64, and Perfect Dark, there wasn't much to see at Nintendo's enclave. IGN64 reported that Nintendo handed out bags that read "I'm a Dolphin developer (development kits enclosed)." Inside the bag was a squishy Dolphin toy. Funny, maybe, but we want the real thing!

In other show news: On Friday, Saffire revealed their SAGE engine to interested developers and media. The program allows the developer to create mind-blowing games free from the bonds of specific console development platforms. In an intriguing special on Nintendojo, Saffire revealed that their Dolphin development started in April of 1999. Click here for more.)

Overall, Microsoft owned the spotlight at the GDC with their unveiling of the X-Box, and Nintendo didn't even attempt to borrow a bit of it. Hopefully the big N has some sort of master plan that we don't know about, for the educated observer is having more and more trouble making sense of it.
