NINTENDO SPEAKS! ...CAREFULLY.
9:55pm ET, monday march 13th

In an intriguing, and many times humorous, but not very revealing interview with IGN64, NOA executives Jim Merrick and Perrin Kaplan said a few interesting things that were of note. It is definitely worth your time to read the full interview, but for the record, here are the bullet points:

  • The Dolphin and X-Box announcements were "completely unconnected."
  • Development for the PS2 is completely different from the Dolphin.
  • Dinosaur Planet is confirmed, it was described as "gorgeous," and may or may not be released in 2000.
  • Nintendo will not focus on Dolphin at E3.
  • "It is definitely going to be a wider variety of titles" at Dolphin launch.
  • "People aren't going to buy next-generation systems, they're going to buy next-generation games."
  • "We're going to be showing the Gekko chip soon."
  • The November 1st release date for GBA has been put off indefinitely.
  • Conker will have a big presence at E3.

Jim and Perrin were also quite funny at times:

  • Jim: "You have to realize that my bonus is determined by the number of signatures on NDAs that I can get so the less information is available to you, the better I must be doing."
  • Jim: "In the immortal words of Howard Lincoln, "Please stay tuned.""
  • Perrin: "The best way to describe it: a chef doesn't reveal his ingredients, but serves up a great dish in the end."
IGN64: "But you kind of want to smell the food before you get it."
Perrin: "Have you eaten at our restaurant before?"
Later, speaking of Miyamoto, Perrin: "He's been in the kitchen. He's cooking!"
  • IGN64: "Is Dolphin's controller done yet?"
[Perrin and Jim stare blankly once more]
    Perrin: "Next question."
IGN64 [playfully]: "We can assume that Dolphin will use controllers?"
Jim: "It is safe to assume that Dolphin will use controllers, yes."
  • Perrin and Jim in unison: "It's not safe to assume anything about Dolphin."
  • IGN64: "Will Dolphin have a lot of RAM?"
Perrin: "I'm going to ram something in about two seconds..."
  • IGN64: "Have you seen Dolphin software running in action? Surely you can at least tell us that."
Perrin: "I want to continue working for this company. Sorry."

You have NO excuse not to click on over to IGN64 and read the interview, so just do it.
